Garden Soil Prep

With my garden space sorted, I need to build up the soil to prepare the area for spring planting. I’m a bit outside delivery range for bulk soil, so it’ll take a few more trips filling my Mazda with bagged soil conditioner and compost before this space is filled. Fortunately, I have a pretty significant head start and can take my time gathering everything I need before I begin planting for the upcoming growing season.

... Read morePreparing your garden soil is crucial for a successful planting season. Start by assessing the current soil condition and addressing any nutrient deficiencies. Incorporate organic matter like compost, which enriches soil structure and promotes beneficial microorganisms. You can also consider using soil conditioners that improve drainage and water retention. If your site lacks adequate topsoil, amending it with quality organic materials will enhance its fertility. Remember to test your soil pH to ensure that it falls within the ideal range for your plants, typically between 6.0 and 7.0. Seasonal changes can also affect nutrient availability, so plan your soil preparation accordingly. Finally, consider companion planting to maximize your garden's yield. By preparing your soil well, you'll set the stage for vibrant growth and bountiful harvests.
