It’s okay to be down the holidays are over.

1/4 Edited to

... Read moreAfter the excitement and joy of the holidays, many people experience a natural emotional dip, often called the post-holiday blues. It’s common to feel a little down or less energized as the festivities wind down and the regular routine returns. From my own experience, allowing yourself to acknowledge these feelings rather than suppressing them is an important first step toward healing. What truly helped me was leaning into my faith and the comforting words shared in Matthew 5:4: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." This verse reminds us that it’s okay to struggle and feel sadness because comfort and peace follow when we seek God. Instead of feeling guilty about not being happy all the time, I found peace in knowing that God is there to comfort us during our low moments. During these times, prayer and reflection can be powerful tools. Speaking honestly with God about your feelings and asking for strength helps to move past prolonged sadness. Additionally, reaching out to a supportive community, whether it’s a church group or close friends who share your values, provides encouragement and lifts your spirits. It’s also important to take care of your mental health practically. Engaging in activities like gentle exercise, spending time in nature, or journaling your thoughts can complement spiritual comfort. Sometimes, combining faith-based reassurance with real-life self-care routines creates the most effective emotional support. If you find yourself struggling more deeply, don’t hesitate to seek professional help. Depression and prolonged sadness shouldn’t be faced alone; there are many resources available, including counselors who respect and integrate spiritual perspectives. Ultimately, the message is clear: feeling down when the holidays are over is normal, and you don’t have to stay in that place. By turning to God’s comfort and caring for yourself holistically, you can navigate the post-holiday blues in a healthy, hopeful way.
