When we don’t understand what God is doing

Grief and hurt and loss are always hard, no matter how much faith you have. It’s important to remember that feeling sad and brokenhearted and even angry are normal human responses — and we should bring all of it to God. We just need to remember that when we don’t understand the reason that God has let something happen, it does change the character of God. He is always good and always loves us, even when we can’t see the bigger picture.

1 Then Job replied to the Lord:

2 “I know that you can do all things;

no purpose of yours can be thwarted.

3 You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’

Surely I spoke of things I did not understand,

things too wonderful for me to know. (Job 42:1–3)

... Read moreExperiencing grief and confusion during difficult times can feel isolating, but it's important to realize that these feelings are valid and a natural part of healing. Even with strong faith, the loss and pain we go through can challenge our understanding of God's plan. From personal experience, I've found that openly expressing sadness and anger in prayer offers relief and brings me closer to God. It's like sharing my burdens honestly rather than hiding them away. In moments when the bigger picture is unclear, such as sudden loss or unexpected hardship, recalling scripture like Job 42:1–3 reminds me that God's plans are beyond human comprehension but always good. Trusting that no purpose of His can be thwarted helps shift the focus from needing all the answers to resting in His steadfast love and sovereignty. Sometimes, growth and healing come more through surrender and trust than through understanding. Integrating daily devotional practices centered on themes like suffering, God's love, and purpose in pain helps maintain spiritual strength. For me, joining community discussions or forums with hashtags like #suffering or #purposeinpain offers encouragement and shared experiences that affirm I’m not alone on this journey. Ultimately, embracing grief and uncertainty rather than avoiding them creates space for deeper faith and resilience, knowing that God's character remains unchanged, even in the hardest seasons.
