Stay Salty
Jesus calls us to stay passionate about the things God has called us to do. We exist to use the special gifts God has given us to accomplish His plan for what he has created us to do. Just like salt is meant for specific purposes, so are you. So it’s important to stay connected to that passion and purpose by staying connected with God.
34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.
“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” (Luke 14:34–35)
Staying 'salty' is a powerful metaphor for maintaining the passion and purpose God has placed within each of us. From my own experience, I’ve found that connecting with God daily through prayer and reflection helps me preserve that vital 'saltiness'—the enthusiasm and divine calling that fuels my actions and decisions. Just as salt enhances flavor and preserves food, our passion for God's purpose preserves our spirit and guides our journey. When I first felt called to share my faith and use my unique gifts, I sometimes struggled with moments of doubt and distraction that dulled my enthusiasm. But by continually seeking God’s presence and meditating on Scripture, particularly verses like Luke 14:34-35, I realized the importance of staying spiritually 'salty.' This means not only holding onto passion but actively engaging with it—through community, service, and personal growth. Remember, losing our 'saltiness' can lead to feeling unfit or disconnected, much like salt that loses its flavor becomes useless. To avoid this, I encourage setting small spiritual goals, staying accountable with others who share your faith, and embracing opportunities to serve in ways that reflect your God-given gifts. In doing so, we not only fulfill God’s purpose for us but also inspire others to discover and live out their calling. Ultimately, staying salty means living intentionally and passionately within God’s plan, knowing each of us has a vital role—just like salt serves many essential purposes. Stay connected to that passion and purpose, and you’ll find your life enriched and your contribution to the world meaningful and lasting.
