Proper SACRIFICE
Scripture says:
“For I desire mercy, not sacrifice,
and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.” (Hosea 6:6)
So why so much talk about sacrifice and all the specifics on how to do it? Because it goes into that acknowledgement of God. It isn’t so much about the sacrifice, it’s Who the sacrifice is for, and recognizing the One True God.
Now, we don’t have to sacrifice bulls and lambs today, because
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Reflecting on the concept of proper sacrifice from a personal perspective has deepened my appreciation for the profound spiritual truths in Scripture. The verse from Hosea 6:6, which emphasizes mercy over sacrifice, reminds me that God desires our hearts, not just ritualistic acts. In today's world, where formal traditions can sometimes overshadow genuine faith, this insight calls me to examine my daily walk with God. When thinking about sacrifice, it's easy to get caught up in the old practices of burnt offerings and rituals. However, this reflection shows that those acts were symbolic, pointing towards something greater—the acknowledgment of God Himself. The New Testament reveals that Jesus embodies the ultimate sacrifice, replacing the need for animal offerings. This revelation has transformed how I view my spiritual life, shifting the focus from external deeds to internal transformation. In my own devotional practice, I strive to live out mercy and kindness, trusting that these actions align with God's desire rather than merely performing religious obligations. Understanding that God made Christ who was sinless to take on our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21) encourages me to embrace righteousness through Him, rather than relying solely on works. This means embracing a faith that is active and authentic, marked not by ritual sacrifice but by love, mercy, and acknowledging God's presence in everyday life. Sharing this perspective with others has been meaningful, as it resonates with many who seek a more personal and heartfelt connection with God beyond traditional ceremonies. Ultimately, proper sacrifice is less about the act itself and more about the attitude of the heart—choosing mercy, recognizing God's holiness, and living a life that reflects His grace. This understanding enriches my daily devotional time and encourages a deeper, more honest relationship with God.
