Too close to my old home 😭😭😭

(No spoilers 💕 everything I reference is said within the first episode)

I was completely captivated by the whole story and binged watched the whole season. I had to immediately journal about this show as I had somewhat of a similar family and sibling dynamics. The favoritism of the youngest sibling and how competitive the younger sister is was so close to my old home life despite the servant part.

(Ive been no contact with my younger sister for about a little over 4 years now)

Just omfg if you ever wanted someone to believe in you and adopt you out of your family or rescue you in any way… this whole show will challenge that concept so much from every possible end 😵‍💫

... Read more“My Happy Marriage” has truly opened up a conversation for so many of us, myself included, about what 'family' really means. I remember settling in to watch it on Netflix, probably around a July 5th release, not realizing how much it would echo some of the deepest parts of my own past. That scene, you know, with the seemingly perfect couple under the cherry blossoms, hints at a romance, but beneath it all, the show bravely tackles some really heavy family dynamics. It made me realize that sometimes, the "happily ever after" isn't just about finding love, but also about finding peace away from certain family ties. The original post touched on favoritism and competitive sibling relationships, and oh my goodness, did that hit home for me. It's not just a plot device in anime; it's a lived reality for so many. Growing up, I often felt like I was constantly trying to measure up, always in the shadow of a favored sibling. It creates this constant, exhausting competition where you're fighting for attention, validation, and even basic respect. You start to question your own worth because the comparison is always there, always unfair. This isn't just "sad"; it's deeply damaging to one's self-esteem and mental health. Then there's the incredibly tough question: "Is a family like this worth keeping?" This is something I've wrestled with for years. When the people who are supposed to be your safe haven are instead the source of your deepest pain, the idea of staying connected can feel like self-betrayal. The show expertly portrays this internal conflict, making you root for the protagonist to find her own strength and definition of happiness, even if it means leaving behind the family she was born into. It really makes you think about the emotional investment required to maintain certain relationships. For me, reaching a point of "no-contact" with a sibling wasn't an easy decision, but it was a necessary one for my own well-being. It’s a path many people sadly find themselves on when the cycle of abuse or neglect, whether emotional or otherwise, becomes too much to bear. It’s not about not loving someone; it’s about choosing to protect your own peace and mental health. The anime, in its own fantastical way, highlights this journey of self-preservation. It shows how sometimes, being "rescued" isn't about someone else coming to save you, but about finding the courage to save yourself. It’s crucial to understand that setting boundaries, or even cutting ties, in toxic family situations isn't a sign of weakness or a failure of love. It's a profound act of self-care. It's about acknowledging that you deserve a life free from constant judgment, manipulation, or emotional pain. "My Happy Marriage" beautifully, albeit painfully, illustrates this by showing a character trying to navigate these very waters. It reminds us that our worth isn't dictated by our family of origin, and that building a truly "happy marriage" (or a happy life, for that matter) often starts with healing from past wounds and choosing relationships that nourish, rather than deplete, us. If you've been struggling with similar thoughts, know you're not alone, and stories like "My Happy Marriage" can be a powerful mirror, reflecting your own strength and resilience.
