I’m excited to share my experience with a fantastic educational opportunity here in Texas! I recently enrolled in an English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas, which is about an hour away from Austin. This program, along with the High School Equivalency (HSE) Preparation program (formerly known as GED), is fully funded by the Texas Workforce Commission, making it completely free for students!
To give you an idea of the value of this opportunity, enrolling in the ESL program without this funding would typically cost around $15,000. I came to the United States 8 years ago, and I can’t wait to improve my English skills through this program.
My goal is to finish the ESL program within a year so that I can pursue a master’s degree. I have already completed a bachelor’s degree in my home country, and it’s been validated here in the U.S. However, I feel that improving my English will better prepare me for the challenges of graduate school.
What’s even better is that after you complete the High School Equivalency (HSE) program, Central Texas College offers free certifications and even ASSOCIATE DEGREES to help you continue your education and advance your career.
