... Read moreLosing someone you love suddenly and unexpectedly, like my dad passing away from a heart attack, changes everything. I was only 24 when it happened, and at that age, ten years represents half my life. It’s shocking how memories fade with time, which makes it even more important to actively remember and celebrate the impact our loved ones had on us. My dad wasn’t just my parent; he was my anchor during an awkward and difficult childhood where I struggled with social anxiety and making friends. I remember how, instead of going out with his friends on Friday nights like most parents, he would pick up my favorite dinner and stay home to spend quality time with me. Those moments were small but incredibly powerful — they made me feel loved and less alone. Even though we didn’t share interests like sports (he loved them, I didn’t), he found ways to connect with me by coaching me in various sports. That effort showed me that love isn’t about shared hobbies but about showing up and being present. One lesson that stuck with me was his belief that "if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life." This wisdom pushed me to pursue creative passions like graphic design, fashion, and social media despite doubts from others. His encouragement taught me to chase fulfillment over fame or money. A poignant regret is that I never came out to him before he passed. Since then, I promised myself to live authentically and proudly every day because you never know what the future holds. For anyone else who has lost someone dear, it’s important to remember that loss isn’t just about missing someone — it’s about preserving their memory and continuing their legacy through our lives. Sharing memories, telling stories, and expressing love keeps those who are gone alive in our hearts. So today, I invite you to remember someone you miss. Write their name, share your memories, and let’s make sure those we love are never forgotten. Their influence shapes us in ways we carry every day, even a decade later.
