The Never List

When I pick up a romantasy novel, especially one like 'The Never List' by Jade Presley, featuring an FMC with multiple mates, the characters are absolutely paramount. They are the heart of the story, and their development, particularly in their bonding, dictates so much of the reading experience. After all, why choose one when you can have them all, right? But the magic is in how those connections are forged. For me, a crucial aspect of enjoying a reverse harem or polyamorous dynamic is seeing the individual and collective relationships blossom organically. In 'The Never List,' while I genuinely loved the story and found the overall premise captivating, I did feel like the FMC's bonding with each of her mates was a little rushed. It's a common sentiment in these types of books, where authors have to balance world-building, plot progression, and multiple romantic arcs. I often found myself wishing I could have seen those relationships develop with more depth and individual focus. Imagine getting dedicated moments where the FMC and each mate could truly connect, beyond the initial sparks. I yearned for more intimate conversations, shared vulnerabilities, and unique challenges that strengthened each specific bond. When connections feel accelerated, it can sometimes make it harder for me, as a reader, to fully invest in each pairing. I want to understand why these particular characters are drawn to each other, what unique qualities each mate brings to the FMC's life, and how their presence changes her. Without that slower burn or more detailed exploration, the bonds, while present, felt a bit theoretical rather than deeply felt. However, the potential is undeniably there! The characters themselves are intriguing, and the concept of their dynamic is compelling. It’s clear Jade Presley has created a world and a cast that readers want to spend more time with. My hope for book 2 is that we get to delve much deeper into these interactions. I'm excited to hopefully witness the evolution of those relationships, seeing them solidify and mature. That would truly elevate an already excellent read into an unforgettable experience. I can't wait to see what comes next for this captivating group!
