I’ve never felt more free
Living with social anxiety can be incredibly challenging, especially when society often expects us to be constantly social and engaged. From my own experience, I've found that understanding and accepting my limits has been the key to feeling genuinely free. Social interactions can be draining, even when I really want to connect, so it’s important to recognize when saying no or taking a step back is the best self-care. One thing that helped me immensely is being honest with friends and acquaintances about my needs. Instead of ghosting or avoiding people when social engagements become too much, I now communicate clearly about my capacity. This honesty, although sometimes difficult, builds respect and ensures that relationships are based on understanding rather than obligation. I also realized that having a small, trusted circle makes socializing a lot less overwhelming. Quality over quantity really matters. For me, it’s not about forcing myself to fit into a typical social mold but about finding those few people who truly get me and with whom I feel comfortable. It's common to feel pressured to maintain certain social expectations, like constant phone calls or frequent outings, but acknowledging that these expectations don't fit everyone is liberating. Embracing this has allowed me to create a lifestyle that prioritizes mental health without sacrificing meaningful connections. If you relate to feeling socially drained or experiencing push-pull dynamics in friendships, know that you're not alone. It’s okay to be a low-maintenance friend and to live life on your own terms. The journey toward self-acceptance is deeply personal but essential for long-term happiness and freedom.
