I’ve encountered situations where my being different, especially in terms of skin tone or style, seems to make me stand out even more, almost like an exotic animal under constant scrutiny. This level of unwanted attention can be draining, making everyday interactions uncomfortable. In addition, it’s not just about physical comfort but also about feeling respected and safe. When people get overly nosy or fixate on appearances, it distracts from the work environment and makes one feel objectified rather than valued for their skills. It’s a relief when people don’t stare or comment, and sometimes I almost prefer to be ignored instead of being the center of unwanted attention. Navigating how to dress and present oneself while balancing personal comfort and social expectations is a constant challenge. I hope workplaces become more aware of how these dynamics affect employees, encouraging respect regardless of fashion choices or appearance.
