When I visited, I was struck by the sheer scale of the structure and how well it has been preserved despite being nearly 2,000 years old. To make the most out of a visit, I highly recommend buying tickets in advance online to avoid long lines, especially during peak tourist season. Early morning or late afternoon tours are ideal for capturing beautiful photos in natural light and enjoying a less crowded atmosphere. Guided tours provide incredible insights into the Colosseum’s history, including details about the gladiators, the Roman Empire, and the amphitheater’s engineering marvels. Nearby, you can also explore the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill to get a full understanding of ancient Rome’s urban center. Walking around the area offers a unique vibe that blends history with the vibrant energy of modern Rome. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes, as there is plenty of walking and uneven surfaces inside the Colosseum. Also, bringing a water bottle and sunscreen is a good idea since much of the experience is outdoors.
