Why I Became a DIY Bride
Planning a wedding is stressful, no way around it. Hiring a wedding planner was, hands down, the best decision I made.
That said, stationery almost broke me.
The most affordable quote I received was close to $5K for very simple menus and invitations. While I love thoughtful details, I couldn’t justify spending that much on paper, especially knowing most of it wouldn’t make it home with guests.
So I did what felt right for me: I used my DIY skills and became a DIY bride. Not because I had to, but because it made sense.
I still got the details I cared about, stayed within budget, and honestly enjoyed the process more than I expected.
More details coming soon.

Planning a wedding involves countless decisions, and stationery often becomes a surprisingly costly element. When I faced quotes nearing $5,000 just for simple menus and invitations, my budget and common sense pushed me to explore DIY options. From my experience, choosing to become a DIY bride wasn't about cutting corners but about adding personal touches and staying true to my vision while managing costs. Instead of outsourcing, I carefully selected materials like quality cardstock and used user-friendly design software to craft invitations that felt custom and heartfelt. One key takeaway was involving close friends and family in the process. Their support not only shared the workload but also made the creation experience more memorable. I experimented with creative fonts and subtle colors that matched our wedding theme without overwhelming the overall design. Interestingly, I found that guests appreciated the handmade details because it reflected the care put into every aspect of the day. Plus, I managed to avoid overproduction—only printing the number of pieces needed to reduce waste. Additionally, incorporating local flavors into menus, like "Salmorejo Cordobés with Burrata and Crispy Ibérico," connected guests to our heritage and added a unique culinary experience, as seen in some elegant wedding menus. Even dessert choices like "Nuestra Pastela with Red Fruits" can be creatively presented alongside DIY stationery to tie everything together. Overall, DIY wedding stationery can be empowering and fulfilling, transforming a challenging aspect of planning into an opportunity for personal expression. If you’re contemplating this, remember to start early, gather resources, and embrace imperfections—they often tell the most authentic stories.
