Why I Chose DIY Over $5K Stationery

I was quoted almost $5K for very simple wedding stationery, and while I love thoughtful details, I couldn’t justify spending that much on something most guests wouldn’t take home.

So I decided to do it myself, and spent around $500 instead. I focused on keeping everything intentional, personal, and elevated, without overdoing it.

From handwritten notes for each guest to small details inspired by our wedding in Spain, this was one of those decisions that felt right for us.

Choosing to create your own wedding stationery can be one of the most rewarding parts of wedding planning, especially when budget constraints are involved. Incorporating design elements inspired by our wedding location in Spain gave the stationery a unique flair that guests appreciated, making the invitations more memorable than generic printouts. I used Canva to design everything myself, which was both user-friendly and customizable. If you are comfortable with basic design tools, this approach can help you create professional-looking invitations and menus while controlling costs. I recommend sourcing quality cardstock from craft stores or online suppliers to maintain an elevated feel without the boutique price tag. Giving yourself plenty of time is essential. Printing, cutting, and assembling the stationery can be time-consuming, so planning ahead reduced stress. If you want to personalize further, consider adding small embellishments like ribbons, wax seals, or stamps that complement your theme. Overall, the DIY process made me feel more connected to our wedding celebration. It was gratifying to see guests appreciate the effort and unique details in each piece. If budget-conscious brides or grooms are debating between spending thousands on stationery versus doing it yourself, I hope my experience encourages you to explore creative DIY options and find joy in crafting your own meaningful wedding details.
