Baby’s First Snow

My heart absolutely melted watching my little black Labrador experience his very first snowfall. He had this adorable, curious expression, nose dusted with snow as he tried to figure out what this soft, cold white stuff was. It wasn't long before his playful interaction turned into a full-blown snow-eating mission! It was utterly hilarious to watch him try to gobble up every flake as if it were the most delicious treat he’d ever encountered. Seeing him embrace the winter wonderland like that made me think about all the funny things our furry friends do when the snow falls. Does your dog do funny things in the snow too? I’ve heard so many stories from friends about their pets’ hilarious antics. Some dogs get the zoomies and run wild, kicking up snow behind them, practically doing backflips in their excitement. Others try to 'hunt' the snowflakes as they fall, snapping at them mid-air with intense focus, as if they're tiny, elusive prey. One of my friends told me her Golden Retriever loves to burrow its whole head into snowdrifts, emerging with a completely white face, looking like a little snow monster! These moments are pure joy and certainly make for fantastic funny snow storm pictures. While all these snow adventures are super fun and make for great photo opportunities, it’s also important to keep our pups safe in the cold. When my Labrador was out there, I made sure to keep an eye on him. Eating a little snow is usually fine, but too much can upset their stomach or even be dangerous if it's packed with de-icing chemicals or hidden debris. We also need to be mindful of ice on paw pads, which can cause cuts or frostbite, and make sure they don’t stay out too long in freezing temperatures. A little waterproof jacket or some dog booties can make a big difference for some breeds, especially those with shorter fur or sensitive paws! After our snowy playtime, I always check his paw pads for any ice buildup or irritation, and give him a good towel-off. It’s these genuine, playful interactions that make winter with our pets so special. Capturing those moments, whether it’s their curious expression as they sniff a snowflake, their joyous leaps through fresh powder, or their comical attempts to eat the snow, creates memories (and photos!) that truly warm the heart, even on the coldest days.
