Baby’s first snow day ❄️
Oh my goodness, I still can't get over how magical our little one's very first snow day was! Watching their eyes light up as they felt the soft, cold snow for the first time was truly a moment I'll cherish forever. We're in #puremichigan, and when the flakes started falling, I knew it was time for a big adventure! It's so amazing how something as simple as snow can bring so much wonder to a tiny human. Getting ready for the big reveal was half the fun. I bundled our little sweetie in a cozy pink snowsuit with a cute purple hooded jacket over it, and of course, a snuggly pink knitted hat with bear ears to keep them extra warm. It’s amazing how many layers you need for those tiny bodies! My top tip for dressing is always layers, layers, layers. Start with a warm base layer like merino wool or thermal cotton, add a fleece or wool mid-layer for insulation, and then that waterproof outer layer like a good quality snowsuit. Don't forget waterproof mittens and warm socks, because those little fingers and toes get cold fast. I made sure to check her mitten frequently to see if it was getting damp or cold. It's crucial to ensure every part of their body is covered to prevent frostbite, especially ears, hands, and feet. We ventured out for just a few minutes at a time, keeping a close eye on her cues. At first, she was a bit surprised by the cold and the new texture, but within seconds, giggles started bubbling up! She loved watching the flakes fall and reaching out to touch them. It was a sensory overload in the best way possible. The absolute highlight? Creating her very first snow angel! It was more like me gently laying her on her back in the fresh, untouched snow and carefully moving her arms and legs to create the shape, but the result was just the sweetest thing. She looked so content and adorable, lying there in her little snowsuit, leaving a perfect little snow angel shape behind. If you're hoping to get a cute baby snow angel photo, find a clean spot with soft, fresh snow. Lay them down gently on a blanket if you prefer, or directly in the snow for a more authentic look, perhaps with their arms crossed over their chest as we did, and snap away quickly. For the best photos, try to capture their expressions up close and from a slightly elevated angle. Safety first is always my motto for these outdoor adventures. Babies lose heat quickly, so keep these outdoor sessions short and sweet, maybe just 5-10 minutes, especially if it's very cold. Watch for signs of discomfort like crying, shivering, or blue lips. When you come inside, immediately remove wet clothing and warm them up with a cozy blanket and maybe a warm bottle. Always check their skin, especially on their cheeks, fingers, and toes, for any redness or paleness that could indicate cold exposure. This #snowday wasn't just about the beautiful white landscape; it was about the joy of experiencing something new through my baby's eyes. These simple moments become the most treasured memories.
