... Read moreFinding the absolute best ice cream in Bar Harbor was high on my list during our babymoon, and I'm so glad we stumbled upon Mount Desert Island Ice Cream. Trust me, this isn't just any ice cream shop; it's a true experience that elevates a simple treat into something memorable. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a vibrant atmosphere. I remember seeing families happily gathered, two hands clutching delicious waffle cones, enjoying their treats. The aroma of freshly made waffle cones alone is enough to draw you in! Looking at their menu board, which clearly displays prices, I was almost overwhelmed by the sheer variety of different ice cream flavors. They range from classic vanilla bean to truly unique concoctions inspired by local Maine ingredients. It makes choosing just one (or two!) scoops a delightful challenge. Their ice cream display cases are always brimming with colorful, creamy goodness, making your decision even harder! What really sets MDIIC apart, beyond the incredible flavors, is the quality. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients, and the texture is always perfectly smooth and rich. My partner and I ended up getting several scoops each, sharing to try as many flavors as possible. Even with the sign stating, 'WE MADE THE DECISION TO STOP SAMPLING IN 2020,' which initially made me a bit hesitant since I love to sample, the flavors we picked were so outstanding that there was no regret. It just meant I had to commit, and every commitment was a win! If you're planning a visit, here are a few tips based on my experience: Be Prepared for a Line: This place is popular, especially during peak season and evenings. But honestly, the wait is part of the anticipation and well worth it. Embrace Unique Flavors: While their classics are fantastic, don't be afraid to venture out. They often have seasonal or specialty flavors that are truly innovative and capture the essence of Maine. I found myself drawn to something with local blueberries and another with a hint of sea salt caramel. Waffle Cone is a Must: Seriously, don't skimp on the waffle cone. It's freshly made and adds an extra layer of deliciousness and crunch that perfectly complements the creamy ice cream. Check the Menu Board: Take your time to read through all the options on the menu board before you get to the front. It helps speed up the process and ensures you don't miss any hidden gems. While Bar Harbor has a charm of its own with many delightful eateries, Mount Desert Island Ice Cream truly captures the spirit of a perfect summer treat. It’s more than just dessert; it’s a sweet memory from our babymoon, and I can't recommend it enough to anyone visiting the area. If you're on the hunt for the best ice cream experience in Bar Harbor, you absolutely have to add this spot to your itinerary. You won't be disappointed!
