Bored and Stubborn
I'm a stubborn Taurus for sure. I really don't change anything until the pain is great enough. I've stayed in addiction longer than I should have, jobs that I knew weren't right, and now I'm procrastinating simple tasks such as reading books, painting, creating, and going to more outside meetings.
Well I started the book and I'm obsessed. Im starting to journal on non IOP days. Spending less time on my phone. I'll take the stubbornness down a notch and report back🙃🌸
It's so easy to get caught in that cycle of feeling bored and, let's be honest, a little stubborn when it comes to making changes. I totally get it. We all have those moments where we know we should be doing something more productive or fulfilling, but inertia just takes over. For me, being a self-proclaimed 'stubborn Taurus,' that feeling of resistance can be incredibly strong. It's like I dig my heels in, even when I know deep down that a change would be good for me. One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that breaking free from boredom and procrastination doesn't always require a grand, dramatic overhaul. Sometimes, it starts with just one tiny step. For example, I mentioned how starting a book completely changed my outlook. The key wasn't forcing myself to read something I hated, but finding something that genuinely captivated me. If you're feeling bored, try exploring genres or topics you wouldn't normally consider. Libraries are fantastic for this because you can sample so many different worlds without commitment. Or, if reading isn't your jam, what about listening to a podcast or an audiobook while you're doing chores? Another game-changer for me has been journaling. I used to think it was just for teenagers or people with a lot of 'feelings' to sort out, but it's become an incredible tool. When I'm feeling stuck or overwhelmed, just getting my thoughts down on paper helps declutter my mind. It's not about writing eloquent prose; it's about honest self-reflection. You can use prompts, or simply free-write whatever comes to mind. It’s amazing how much clarity you can gain, and it often sparks ideas for new activities or solutions to problems. And let's talk about that phone time! I noticed a huge shift once I consciously started reducing how much time I spent scrolling. It’s incredible how many hours can disappear into the digital abyss. By setting limits or even just putting my phone in another room for an hour, I found myself with more mental space and actual time to pursue those creative tasks I’d been putting off. Maybe try a 'digital detox' for a few hours a day and see what happens. You might be surprised by what you discover about yourself or your environment. For those of us who are inherently a bit stubborn, that trait can actually be a superpower once you channel it in the right direction. Instead of being stubborn about not changing, what if we became stubborn about sticking to our new positive habits? For me, once I found something rewarding, my stubbornness transformed into determination. It helped me consistently journal, keep reading, and seek out those 'outside meetings' that provide a sense of community and accountability. Don't fight your nature; learn to harness it. If you're a creature of habit, make your habits good ones! It takes time, patience, and a willingness to try, but finding those activities that genuinely engage you is truly life-changing. You've got this!
