... Read moreWhen I first started learning the handstand, I thought the only way to get better was to practice the handstand itself, mainly kick-ups. Like many, I spent hours trying to hold the balance, but my progress was slow and frustrating. Looking back, I realize that building a strong foundation is crucial for mastering the handstand. Instead of dedicating 90% of my time to kick-ups, focusing on targeted exercises for shoulder strength, hand stability, and core engagement would have accelerated my journey. Some foundational exercises I recommend include chest-to-bar planks on a chair, L-shaped handstands on a chair, shoulder shrugs and depressions, and various handstand holds against the wall. These exercises help develop the necessary strength and muscle control. Moreover, balancing your training between practicing kick-ups and these strength-building drills prevents plateaus and reduces the risk of injury. Developing shoulder strength and engaging your abs properly ensures you can hold the handstand position steadily, not just kick up and fall. From personal experience, incorporating these foundation exercises helped me gain confidence and stability. It made my handstand practice more efficient and enjoyable. If you're starting or struggling with handstands, I highly recommend you focus on foundational strength training alongside your balance practice. This balanced approach will help you progress faster and maintain your handstand longer.
