I’ve tried both of these products out for facial sunscreen, and I can definitely say one is a buy and one is a bye!!

Good Molecules Sheer Mineral Sunscreen
I love this sunscreen! It gives great sun protection while not irritating my skin, and it absorbs well into the skin and sits well under makeup! I also don’t feel like it gives too bad of a white cast
BYE 👋🏼
elf Whoa Glow Sunscreen
I tried to make this work because I wanted it to do bad, but it just didn’t! It didn’t sit well on my skin, always pilled up when I touched my face, regardless of if I had makeup on top of it or not. It also made my skin break out!
... Read moreAfter sharing my initial thoughts on the ELF Whoa Glow Sunscreen versus the Good Molecules Sheer Mineral Sunscreen, I wanted to dive a little deeper, especially since I know many of you are curious about ELF’s popular sunscreen offerings, including their 'Suntouchable' line! It seems a lot of us are on the hunt for that perfect, affordable SPF.
While my original review specifically focused on the ELF Whoa Glow, which comes in that recognizable orange and blue packaging, it’s worth noting that ELF has expanded its 'Suntouchable' range. This often includes variations like 'Invisible,' 'Glowy,' or 'Matte' finishes, each designed to cater to different skin types and preferences. When I was looking for a new facial sunscreen, I was really hoping the Whoa Glow version would be a winner, given all the buzz around ELF products. Unfortunately, for my skin, it just didn't live up to the hype, as I mentioned – the pilling was a huge deal-breaker, and it even led to some unwelcome breakouts.
So, why do some sunscreens pill or cause issues? From my experience and what I've learned from countless beauty forums, it often comes down to a few factors. Sometimes, it's about product incompatibility – certain ingredients in your moisturizer or serum just don't play well with the sunscreen, causing it to ball up. Other times, it's the application method; rubbing too much or not letting previous layers dry can lead to pilling. And, of course, skin type plays a massive role. An oily or combination skin type might react differently to a dewy-finish sunscreen compared to someone with dry skin.
This leads me to some key considerations when you're choosing your next sunscreen, especially if you're navigating the various options like the ELF Suntouchable line or exploring mineral vs. chemical formulas. First, think about your skin type: do you need something mattifying, hydrating, or gentle for sensitivity? For me, with my combination-prone skin, I look for something that feels lightweight and non-comedogenic. Second, consider the finish you want. If you love a glowing look, a 'whoa glow' or 'dewy' option might appeal, but be wary if you’re prone to oiliness or if you plan to wear makeup over it. Third, always patch test! This is something I've learned the hard way. Even if a product is highly rated, your skin might react uniquely, as mine did with the ELF Whoa Glow.
That's why my experience with the Good Molecules Sheer Mineral Sunscreen, often seen in its white and yellow tube, was such a breath of fresh air. It provided that reliable sun protection without any irritation, absorbed beautifully, and most importantly, it sat perfectly under my makeup. No pilling, no breakouts, just smooth, protected skin – exactly what I was hoping for in a daily facial SPF. It proved to be a definite 'buy' for me, earning that money emoji! I've found that finding a sunscreen that works for your skin is a journey, and what works for one person might be a 'bye' for another. Keep experimenting, and don't give up on finding your perfect SPF!
