An increase of 12,700 "COVID-19" infections from 8,000 in the previous week was observed, pointing to a number of factors, including a decrease in population "immunity." There is no indication that the "NB. 1.8.1" outbreak is more infectious or more serious than the outbreak.
21 May 69 Communicable Disease Control Agency (CDA) Singapore Issues Statement Updating COVID-19 Situation in Singapore
The Office of Communicable Disease Control (CDA) is monitoring an increase in COVID-19 infections in Singapore, as well as other endemic respiratory diseases. COVID-19 outbreaks are expected to occur sporadically throughout the year. There is no indication whatsoever that locally epidemic strains are more easily spread or cause more severe diseases than strains that have previously spread.
The projected number of COVID-19 cases in the week of May 10 to 16 2026 has risen to 12,700, compared to 8,000 in the previous week.
During the same period, the average daily number of COVID-19 hospitalized cases increased from 56 to 73. On average, there was one patient in ICU every day. Public hospitals were able to cope with the increase in the number of patients.
The increase in the number of cases may be due to a number of factors, including declining population immunity. 1.8.1 strain (which is a strain descended from the JN.1 strain) is the main strain of the COVID-19 virus that has spread in Singapore, accounting for more than half of the genetically transcribed cases in the country.
