If the thought of slipping into a bikini or going shirtless leaves you feeling a bit uneasy, fear not – there's still ample time to shed some pounds and tone up!

Step 1: Diet and Nutrition

Nutrition Tips

🍋Snack Smart: Snacking, even on healthy options, can sneak in extra calories and hinder your weight loss progress. Combat mindless munching by opting for hydrating choices like water or crunchy veggies over calorie-dense snacks.

Consuming protein combined with a regular exercise schedule will help you pack on muscle mass while ridding your body of fat to give you a lean, toned figure. Common diets such as the Keto diet focus on protein consumption over carbs to give the body energy to perform workouts, shed fat, and build muscle mass for overall well-being.

🍋Limit the Naughty List: While indulging occasionally is fine, aim to limit refined carbs, sugary treats, and excess alcohol. ✨Balance is key✨, so enjoy treats in moderation while prioritizing nutrient-dense foods for long-term success.

Step 3: Sleep!

🍋Sleep allows your body to recover from intense exercise and to grow/repair muscles.

🍋Sleep deprivation can cause hormonal imbalances which can lead to excessive hunger and cravings. Sleep-deprived people are more likely to reach for foods rich in carbs. (See helpful tips for sleeping on slide 10)

🍋When you don’t get enough sleep, two of the hunger hormones in the body called ghrelin and leptin are influenced. Ghrelin is the hormone that allows the brain to know when you are hungry. It is released in your stomach in high amounts when you are hungry, and low amounts when you have eaten. On the other hand, the fat cells release leptin, which allows the brain to know when you are satisfied.

🍋In the case of sleep deprivation, your body creates less leptin but more ghrelin than usual. This causes a spike in your appetite. However, if you make a real effort to get to bed earlier and rack up those sleep hours, then you’re less likely to snack.

🍋Another plus side is that exercising regularly will reduce stress, tire you out, and help you to get more sleep. The more you exercise, the better you will sleep, which means that you’ll make more progress too. Win-win!

Step 4: Drink Water!!!

🍋Drink Plenty Of Water: Keeping yourself properly hydrated should honestly be the first step on your list when learning how to get a summer body and it isn’t just for the weight loss benefits...

🍋A great way to fight off hunger and cravings throughout the day is by drinking water. If you need some flavor, you can mix in BCAAs (naturally-flavored enhanced water supplements that support muscle growth) to help you get the energy you need and avoid succumbing to your cravings.

🍋So, why is hydration so important?

✅First off, it’s an easy one to start with. Assuming you want to follow all of my steps to get in shape for summer, this one will be a great start to getting into the right healthy habits.

“Why didn’t you start with it first then?”

Because I didn’t want you thinking drinking a gallon of water a day would fix all your problems and get upset when you’re bloated from drinking so much water without changing your diet or exercising. So that’s why it’s listed as step 4. 😉

🍋Water is great for boosting your metabolism and keeping hunger at bay.

🍋Switching sugary drinks for water will reduce your caloric intake as well as helping you to consume less saturated fat (which is the biggest contributor to belly fat!)

🍋It’s great for your overall health and will make you feel more alert and energized.

🍋It reduces the chances of headaches and kidney stones… you can’t complain at that!

If I don’t have you convinced yet (I know, some of you aren’t keen on plain water), here are some tips on making hydration a little more interesting when learning how to get a summer body.

✅One thing to do is get an infuser water bottle. With one of these, you can make your own flavored water with fruit which will encourage you to drink more! You can get them for as cheap online, or in your local supermarket. Fresh fruits like strawberries, berries, oranges, lemons, limes, etc. work really well, so there’s plenty of choice.

✅If you struggle to cut out caffeinated drinks like tea and coffee, then you can always try green tea or herbal tea to substitute some of your daily intakes!

🍋Green tea also helps boost metabolism and aid fat loss and it is packed with antioxidants and therefore detoxes your body alongside a healthy diet. It’s also a good alternative to drinking only water throughout the day and can help with rehydration.

🍋How much water should I drink? The short answer is around 2-4 liters or 8-16 oz cups a day per day. This is a safe amount and certainly enough to maintain a good level of hydration. (See example on slide 5)

I know it might seem overwhelming, but here's a simple way to start: go into your kitchen, grab a measuring cup, and fill it with 8 ounces (1 cup) of water. Pour that into your typical dining glass. You’ll probably notice it doesn’t even fill the glass halfway—mine only fills about half. So, if I fill that glass four times in one day, I’ve reached my 2 liters.

Still skeptical? Measure out 1 cup and drink it. You'll find you can finish it in just 2 or 3 gulps. It’s not as daunting as it seems. The number 8 might sound like a lot, but once you break it down, drinking 8 cups or more a day is quite manageable.

Step 5: Record Your Progress

You’ve nailed your diet, you’ve been working out, and you’re sleeping like a log. What else could you possibly do to ensure that you know exactly how to get a summer body?

Well, there is one more thing. You may underestimate the power of it, but trust me. This is the final step in our guide on how to get a summer body, and perhaps one of the most important!

There are different ways to record your progress, and different people suit different methods. Whatever you choose, you should record the progress that you make each week or month. This will show you the changes that you can’t physically see within the first section of your journey, and give you an incentive to work harder.

Here are some quick suggestions:

🍋Weigh yourself on the same morning each week.

Measure your waist, arms, legs, etc. each week.

🍋Keep an outfit that doesn’t fit and try it on every week (it will get gradually looser/tighter depending on your goals!)

🍋Track your body fat percentage on the scales at the gym.

If you try each of the methods, I can almost guarantee that one will work for you!

🍋While weighing yourself on the scales is probably the most popular of these methods, it can also be a curse to those trying to slim down.

This is because after eating well and exercising as they should, it sometimes says that they have either put on weight (when their goal is to lose), or lost weight (when their goal is to gain).

This is because your body weight changes every day, depending on whether you’ve gained muscle mass or water weight, or lost it, etc.

To avoid this, weigh yourself on the same morning each week. Or, use the scales at the gym to track your body fat percentage/get a more accurate reading!

🍋Measuring your body with a tape measure can be a lot more accurate and uplifting than the number on the scales, provided that you do it right.

It may take a little longer to see results depending on your starting point, but it’s certainly good for letting you know how many gains you’ve made as there are no other factors getting in the way of what you want to see!

🍋A: If you are just starting your exercising journey, get yourself into a routine where you are not forcing yourself to work out. Go for a short walk once per day or stretch in the mornings to get started with your routine. If you begin to build consistency, then you can start adding in strenuous exercise routines more often.

Q: How long does it take to start seeing results in the gym?

🍋A: This answer will vary from person to person depending on their exercise regimes and fitness goals. Most people start to notice results from consistently working out and eating a healthy diet within 2-4months, sometimes more, sometimes less.

🍋Q: Do I have to do both cardio and weight training?

A: It is recommended to incorporate both kinds of training into your exercise program to ensure you build muscle while improving your cardio to strengthen your heart.

I just wanted to take a moment to clarify something about the terms like "summer ready" and "Beachbody" that you might see me using in my posts. I know these phrases can sometimes come off as cliché or even make you feel like there's pressure to look a certain way, especially as we head into warmer weather.

But here's the thing: When I talk about being "summer ready" or having a "Beachbody," I'm not trying to reinforce any specific beauty standards or imply that there's only one way to look good. Far from it.

What I'm really talking about is embracing this time of year when the weather is nicer, and many of us are feeling inspired to make positive changes in our lives. Whether that means starting a new workout routine, exploring healthier habits, or simply finding ways to enjoy the outdoors more, it's all about feeling good and living our best lives.

So please remember, your body is beautiful just the way it is. There's no one-size-fits-all definition of what a "Beachbody" looks like, and that's perfectly okay. We're all unique, and that's something to celebrate.

Veggies are easy – as much as two cupped hands can hold! And for healthy fats like nuts, seeds, or avocado, I stick to about a thumb-sized portion. This technique, which I saw illustrated in one of my fitness apps, made portion control so much more manageable and less like a restrictive diet. It helped me enjoy my meals while still staying on track. Another area that often felt daunting was 'summer body workouts,' especially with phrases like '30 minutes a day' popping up. I used to think effective workouts required hours at the gym, but after some trial and error, I discovered the power of efficient, short routines. For busy days, my go-to became a 30-minute HIIT session. I’d pick 4-5 total body exercises – think squats, push-ups, lunges, and planks – and perform each for 45 seconds with 15 seconds of rest, repeating the circuit 3-4 times. This approach, often incorporating elements from those 'beginner exercise tips' you see, gets my heart rate up quickly and works multiple muscle groups without feeling like a huge time commitment. Even a brisk 30-minute walk with some incline on the treadmill, as suggested by some 'incline treadmill plan' examples, became a solid workout for me. It proves you don't need endless hours to build 'summer body fitness.' And let's not forget the basics that are often overlooked. Hydration, as the article emphasizes, is key. I found that infusing my water with fruits like sliced cucumber and mint, or berries, made it so much easier to hit my daily water goals and avoid sugary drinks, which contributed significantly to my overall feeling of well-being and less bloating.
