Summerween, to me, is all about the cozy side: Carving jack-o'-lanterns, lazy pool days, cozy mysteries, baking, and rewatching comfort Halloween episodes... 🎃🍉☀️
I like to say that Slasher Summer is the spooky sister. It's the other side of the coin. Lake days, horror movie marathons, hunting for old VHS tapes, going to the drive in, going to arcades, camping, Ect! 🌊🪓⛺️🌲
Now granted, both of those sets of activities could be combined into either vibe, but I like to separate them between being cozy activities versus spooky activities!
I want a very spooky and cozy summer this year, so here is a few things i have planned!:
- Have more outdoor spooky movie nights
- Do more bonfires & telling ghost stories
- Go to a slasher summer haunted house like i did last year
- Decorate and utilize my front porch more!
- Cook/bake new spooky themed food
- Have a summerween picnic
- Pull out some of my fall decor
- Play / dance in the rain!
- Travel to new places
- Roller skate & ride my bike!
- Go hiking & camping
- Have lots of lake days
- Go to arcades and carnivals
- Add more horror VHS tapes to my collection
- Take a Late-night drive and listen to a spooky podcasts
- Explore local thrift stores for vintage halloween/ horror items
- Visit a historic cemetery & do a local ghost tours
- Host a spooky backyard cookout!
Are you more team cozy Summerween or are you a horror/ scary Slasher Summer type of person?
i'd say I'm an equally both! 🫶🏼

As someone who adores both the warm, cozy elements of Summerween and the thrilling chills of Slasher Summer, I find combining these activities brings a truly unique summer vibe. For example, I love starting an evening with a laid-back bonfire where we tell ghost stories while roasting marshmallows, mixing comfort with fright in the perfect way. One of my favorite discoveries lately has been hunting for old horror VHS tapes and Blu-ray editions like classic “Jaws” or “Huckey,” which adds nostalgia and spooky ambiance to my movie nights. It’s a wonderful way to connect with horror history and feel the thrill of vintage scares. Moreover, outdoor spooky movie nights, especially at drive-ins or backyard setups, offer the best combination of fresh air and eerie entertainment under the stars. Adding thematic snacks or baking Halloween-inspired treats makes it even more festive. Exploring local thrift stores for vintage Halloween or horror memorabilia also brings joy and surprise — finding unique decor or collectibles to enhance your home or porch decorations can be so rewarding. Personally, I balance my summer by spending plenty of time at the lake or camping, which grounds me in nature, then infuse my nights with spooky podcasts or visits to haunted houses. These varied activities allow me to enjoy both the relaxing and thrilling aspects of summer, no matter the mood. If you’re torn between cozy and spooky, try mixing them: a summer picnic decorated with fall-inspired decor, followed by a late-night drive listening to ghost stories, creates an exquisite balance. Dance in the rain to embrace the carefree spirit, then curl up with a cozy Halloween mystery when you get home. Ultimately, Summerween and Slasher Summer offer exciting, alternative ways to celebrate the season beyond the usual warm-weather traditions. Whether you’re team cozy or team scary, mixing these vibes can craft an unforgettable summer full of fun, fright, and fond memories.
