The waiting game is real, you guys. Being admitted to the hospital, knowing that 'new lungs' could be just hours away, is an experience I can barely put into words. Every minute feels stretched, a careful balance of adrenaline, anxiety, and an almost surreal calm. My OR time is scheduled for 6 PM, but as the doctors explained, things can easily run late. It's not just about my slot; it's about the donor lungs arriving, undergoing meticulous checks, and being declared in 'good enough condition' for transplant. There are so many moving parts, so many dedicated medical professionals working tirelessly behind the scenes to make this miracle happen. You truly feel like you're part of an intricate dance, where every step has to be perfect. And then there's the 'bittersweet' reality of it all. The OCR captured it perfectly: while I’m here, brimming with hope for a new lease on life, there’s a family out there who just lost their loved one. It’s impossible not to think about them, to hold them in my 'thoughts and prayers.' Every breath I hope to take in the future will be a direct gift from them, a profound act of generosity in the face of unimaginable grief. It’s a strange duality, this immense joy on my side of the coin, juxtaposed with the deepest sorrow on theirs. This awareness makes me even more 'grateful' and determined to honor this incredible gift by living my life to the fullest. It’s a responsibility I don't take lightly. This journey as a 'spoonie' with a chronic illness has taught me so much about resilience, but nothing quite prepares you for this moment. Over the years, living with my condition, I’ve learned to manage the ups and downs, but this is a whole new level. The emotional preparedness required is immense. You try to visualize the surgery, the recovery, and what life might be like on the other side. But mostly, you just try to stay present, to breathe (as best you can!), and to trust the process. The support from my community, my family, and even strangers online has been an incredible lifeline. From the #spoonie community who understand the daily struggles, to friends who send encouraging messages, it’s a reminder that even in the toughest times, we’re not alone. I’ll be sure to update you all as soon as I have news, whether that’s in a few hours or later tonight. Whatever happens, know that every moment is precious, and I’m ready for whatever comes next. Thank you for being on this journey with me, sending all your positive vibes. Let's hope those 'new lungs' are ready for me so I can finally take that deep, full breath I’ve dreamt of for so long!
