This is everything I did on my last true day of my Paris vacation. Unfortunately the trip ended early because I got a big stomach bug!
1. Louvre
2. Officine Universelle Buly 1803 in Galeries Lafayette
3. Paul & Julienne
4. Galeries Lafayette Le Gourmet
Visiting Paris offers endless opportunities to immerse yourself in culture, art, and local flavors, even when plans don't go perfectly. Starting the day at the Louvre is truly a must. Although many advise skipping it due to crowds, the experience of seeing masterpieces like the Mona Lisa and the Winged Victory of Samothrace in person is irreplaceable. Arriving early can help beat the rush and allow a more enjoyable visit. After the museum, the Galeries Lafayette, especially Officine Universelle Buly 1803, is a hidden gem for unique gifts like personalized engraved combs. Watching the engraving process take a couple of hours is an interesting experience itself, and while waiting, popping into nearby eateries is a wonderful way to enjoy authentic French cuisine. I personally indulged in beef tartar, a classic Parisian dish that’s both fresh and flavorful. The gourmet section of Galeries Lafayette, known as Le Gourmet, is not only a shopper’s delight but also a foodie’s paradise. Exploring the artisanal products, fine cheeses, and amazing pastries there can easily become the highlight of your day. It integrates well with the rest of the itinerary, providing a satisfying wrap-up to a day filled with Parisian charm. Lastly, despite the unfortunate turn of catching a stomach bug, the memories and unique experiences made the trip worthwhile. It’s important to travel mindful of your health, but also flexible enough to cherish the small adventures, even unplanned. Sharing meals and quiet moments with friends or locals, like my dinner with Emmy from Sophisticated Spreads, adds a personal touch that truly enriches any journey.
