One tip I found useful is to evenly knead the dough, letting it rest for at least 20-30 minutes to relax the gluten, which makes rolling out easier. When rolling, lightly flour the surface and try to roll from the center outwards while rotating the dough to maintain a circular form. Don’t stress if your roti isn’t perfectly round; the taste is what counts! Cooking roti over a hot tawa (griddle) until it starts to puff is so satisfying—the puff indicates the layers formed inside, resulting in softness. Many cooks in India enjoy sharing roti recipes and styles depending on regional preferences, making the experience even richer. Moreover, roti is more than just bread; it’s a daily staple that connects to Indian familial traditions and meals.
