"Iran" Walkout! Out of talks with US in Switzerland, upset after "Trump" threatens to hit Iran hard again, world oil immediately surges
Iran's IRIB reported on Sunday that talks between the United States and Iran, with Pakistan and Qatar as mediators, were suspended in Switzerland after about 80 minutes of discussions as the two sides took a break for internal consultations.
According to media reports, the first round of talks did not feature discussions on Iran's nuclear program, focusing on the implementation of Article 13 of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries and putting Lebanon-related issues first.
According to Qatari sources, the first round of talks will focus on Lebanon, with discussions on the Strait of Hormuz following, and in the third round will address Iran's nuclear program and sanctions.
On the side of Iran's Tasnim, a government-backed news agency, quoted sources close to the negotiating team as saying that the Iranian delegation had left the negotiating place to protest the remarks made by US President Donald Trump, who earlier in the same day had threatened through his Truth Social platform to "strike Iran hard again" if Iran stops Hezbollah from "provoking chaos."
It posted via Truth Social, "Iran must stop a group of highly paid agents in Lebanon from causing trouble immediately; if not, we will strike Iran hard again, as we did last week, but harder than ever!!"
The oil immediately began to adjust up.
That Trump stance has caused oil markets to re-anxiety, with prices starting to rise in recent trading.
At 07.48am in Thailand, the price of WTI crude oil in the United States began to adjust by $1.58, or + 2.06%, to $78.18 per barell.
The price of Brent crude oil in London rose 61 cents, or + 0.76%, to 81.18 dollars per barell.
