Using chemical exfoliants such as AHAs and BHAs helps remove dead skin cells and promotes skin renewal, which gradually lightens pigmentation. However, avoid over-exfoliating to prevent irritation, which can make pigmentation worse. For those dealing with stubborn hyperpigmentation, products containing retinoids can accelerate cell turnover and aid in fading discoloration. Start slowly with retinoids to build tolerance and prevent dryness. Hydration and skin barrier repair are equally crucial. Healthy, moisturized skin heals better and maintains a balanced tone. Look for moisturizers with ceramides or hyaluronic acid. Lastly, patience is key. Hyperpigmentation treatments take time, often several weeks to months, to show significant improvement.
