So I just had a session zero with my fourth campaign! It was a lot of fun and it’s with people I know, love, and care about! During the session my character and my friend Kayla’s character were pulling each other into different directions and so we both had to make contested strength checks! And we both rolled a 4! It was the funniest moment but it also was perfect as it went well with all of our other throws we had been doing. It makes me very much look forward to this campaign and all it will hold! Gotta love D&D!

For many of us, especially in online campaigns, a tool like Avrae makes those moments even smoother and more engaging. I've found it to be an absolute game-changer for managing sessions and keeping the fun flowing.
If you're wondering how to level up your D&D experience, especially when it comes to those crucial 1d20 rolls, Avrae is a fantastic Discord bot. It's not just for showing off your natural 20s (or commiserating over a natural 1!). You can easily command it to !r 1d20 for a standard check, or even more complex rolls. What I love is how it handles things like advantage/disadvantage (!r 1d20 adv or !r 1d20 dis). For our contested strength checks, it was so easy to see both results clearly, making that shared '4' even funnier. The Avrae app really helps keep the game moving without needing to pass physical dice around, which is perfect for remote play and ensures all your 1d20 rolls are tracked digitally.
Beyond just rolling dice, Avrae shines with its initiative tracking capabilities. Juggling monster and player initiative can be a headache for Dungeon Masters, but Avrae streamlines it beautifully. With simple commands like !i begin, !i add <character_name> <initiative_score>, and !i next, it manages the turn order automatically. This frees up the DM to focus on storytelling and combat strategy, rather than fiddling with notes or dice. It's especially useful for complex encounters with many combatants, ensuring no one gets forgotten and keeping the pace snappy.
Another feature that truly elevates Avrae for me is its ability to integrate with character sheets from D&D Beyond. Imagine linking your character and then being able to make skill checks, saving throws, or attack rolls directly through Avrae, with all your modifiers automatically applied! Commands like !check perception or !attack longsword pull directly from your sheet. This not only speeds up gameplay but also reduces errors, letting players focus on roleplaying rather than constantly calculating. It’s like having a digital assistant for your character, making managing spells, hit points, and abilities so much easier.
In my recent session zero, seeing everyone's rolls, including those funny matching 4s, was a great bonding experience. Avrae just made the whole process seamless, letting us focus on the narrative and our character interactions. If you're looking to enhance your D&D sessions, whether online or in-person (for quick digital rolls), definitely give Avrae a try. It saves time, reduces friction, and lets you dive deeper into the magic of Dungeons & Dragons. Happy rolling!
