Although technology sometimes fails us—as it did when my phone died during this freestyle session—such moments remind us how important it is to be adaptable as artists. When you’re freestyling, you’re essentially thinking on your feet, combining numbers, words, and emotions both consciously and subconsciously. In my recent NYC freestyle, I found myself juggling feelings and thoughts while crafting verses that reflect my real-time mindset. It’s a mental workout as much as a performance, involving guessing and playing with language until everything clicks. For fellow artists and freestylers, I recommend always carrying a backup recording device or using external recorders. Alternatively, live streaming platforms that allow saving sessions can help avoid losses due to technical issues like battery drain. Also, practicing mindfulness can boost your ability to stay calm and focused even if something unexpected interrupts your flow. Being based in Montreal adds a rich cultural backdrop to my art. The city’s diverse crowd and creative atmosphere inspire fresh ideas, often reflected in the vibe of my freestyles. I encourage other artists to embrace their environments as part of their artistic journeys. Ultimately, whether your phone dies, or you run out of breath mid-verse, remember that every freestyle is a snapshot of your creativity at that moment. Embrace imperfections—they make the art real and relatable.
