My son and I were the only ones home at the time. I got the fire out while he helped to get all of the animals out of the house. I’m so glad I was raised to always have a fire extinguisher in my house and how to use it. @Dustin Jasmer NP
Experiencing a kitchen fire can be terrifying, but being prepared can make all the difference. In this story, the oven caught fire while cooking dinner on September 28, 2025, at 6:35 PM, yet everyone remained safe thanks to quick action and proper preparedness. Having a fire extinguisher readily accessible in the home is essential. Knowing how and when to use it can prevent minor fires from turning into devastating disasters. It’s important to remember the PASS technique: Pull the pin, Aim low at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep side to side to extinguish flames effectively. Additionally, ensuring that all family members are familiar with evacuation procedures and have a plan for safely removing pets keeps everyone protected during emergencies. In this case, while one person controlled the fire, the other ensured that all animals were safely removed from the house. This incident underscores the value of fire safety education and preparedness. Smoke alarms should be installed on every level of a home, and regular checks should be made to ensure they are functioning properly. Regularly maintaining kitchen appliances and never leaving cooking unattended are vital preventive measures. In summary, while kitchen fires like an oven catching fire can happen unexpectedly, being prepared with a fire extinguisher, knowing basic fire safety protocols, and having an emergency plan can save lives and property.
