Jesus Raised Lazarus (The 7th Sign from Jesus) 🪴

2024/6/4 Edited to

... Read moreMy recent deep dive into John Chapter 11 has been an incredibly impactful spiritual journey. Meditating on the story of Jesus raising Lazarus has opened my eyes to the profound power and compassion of God. It's not just a historical event; it's a living truth that speaks to our lives even now. Imagine the scene: Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, is gravely ill. Jesus receives the news but deliberately waits, much to the anguish of the sisters. 'Lazarus has died 4 days' is a detail that truly emphasizes the finality of his death. In that culture, four days meant decomposition had set in, removing any doubt of a mere swoon or trance. This delay wasn't out of indifference, but a divine plan to highlight God's glory and Jesus's authority over death itself. When Jesus finally arrives, Martha declares her faith, saying, 'Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.' It's a raw, honest expression of grief mixed with unwavering trust. Then comes one of the most powerful declarations in the Bible: 'I AM the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.' This isn't just a promise for the distant future; it's a present reality. Jesus isn't merely a healer; He is the source of all life. This truth, highlighted in my own Bible study notes, resonates deeply, offering immense comfort and hope. Before performing the miracle, Jesus prays. This is a crucial detail I've often pondered, as many of the 'high expose queries' also focused on 'Jesus praying before raising Lazarus.' He looks up to heaven and gives thanks, demonstrating His unity with the Father and His complete reliance on God's will. This prayer wasn't for God's benefit, but for those standing by, 'that they may believe that you sent me.' It teaches us the importance of prayer, not just as a request, but as an act of faith and a testimony to others. Then, with a loud voice, He commands, 'Lazarus, come forth!' And Lazarus, bound in grave clothes, emerges from the tomb. It's a moment that defies all natural laws, a testament to Christ's divine power. This '7th sign' is a pinnacle moment, confirming Jesus as the Messiah and the giver of abundant, eternal life. The handwritten notes in my journal often return to this specific command, imagining the sheer authority in His voice. This miracle had profound consequences, as my studies through John Chapters 11 and 12 have shown. While it brought many to faith, it also intensified 'THE PLOT TO KILL JESUS' by the priests and Pharisees. The fame of this event, including 'AN ANNOINTING AT BETHANY' that followed, ultimately sealed their resolve against Him. It reminds us that divine light often exposes human darkness. As I highlight verses and add handwritten notes with my trusty markers, I reflect on how every detail in this chapter points to Jesus's ultimate sacrifice and victory. This story isn't just about Lazarus's physical resurrection; it's a powerful foreshadowing of Jesus's own resurrection and the spiritual new life available to all who believe. It strengthens my faith, reminding me that no situation is too dead for God's transformative power.
