First time travelling with a baby... my worries 😅

We decided to bring our baby to China when he turns 6 months, for about a week.

Honestly… I’m excited, but also quite nervous.

As a first-time mum travelling with a baby, these are the things I keep thinking about 👇

🍼 1. Pumping on the go

I’m still a lactation mum and usually pump every ~4 hours.

Not sure if I can manage this consistently for a week when we’re out and away from the hotel.

👶 2. Stroller + crowd situation

Is China stroller-friendly?

Will it be too crowded or difficult to move around, especially when crossing the road?

🧴 3. Bottle washing & sterilising

At home in Singapore, even tap water is drinkable.

But in China, the water is different… will our usual method of sterilising with boiled tap water still be okay for baby?

Or should we consider using boiled bottled (mineral) water instead?

✈️ 4. Flight with baby

The flight worries me the most 😅

What if baby poops and it leaks… especially during a “poonami”?

At home, we usually wash him after every poop.

But when we’re out, we’ll have to rely on wet wipes. Will we be able to handle it on the plane?

💭 Final thoughts

Hopefully our previous mini trials can help us prepare a little better mentally.

We’re planning to do a few longer outings before the trip to see if I can manage pumping outdoors or longer hours without pumping.

And of course… I just hope baby stays healthy throughout the trip 🤍

I’ll be sharing our trial outings and how the actual trip goes. Follow along if you’re planning to travel with a baby too 👶✈️

Any tips from mums who have travelled with a baby? 🥺

... Read moreTraveling with a baby for the first time can be a mix of excitement and anxiety, as many parents experience. From personal experience, one of the biggest challenges is maintaining the baby’s feeding routine, especially when breastfeeding or pumping milk. It helps to pack a portable, battery-operated pump and a well-insulated cooler bag to keep expressed milk fresh during outings. Scheduling a few trial runs of longer trips before the actual holiday lets you test how well you can pump on the go and adjust your routine accordingly. When it comes to stroller accessibility, urban areas in China can be busy and crowded, but many popular tourist spots and shopping malls are stroller-friendly with ramps and elevators. Planning your route ahead, avoiding peak crowd hours, and using a lightweight stroller makes navigating easier. Also, consider using a baby carrier in places where crowds or stairs might be challenging. Hygiene is critical while traveling, especially with bottle feeding. Since tap water standards vary, boiling bottled mineral water is often the safest choice for sterilizing bottles. Portable sterilizer bags or UV sterilizers can also make sterilizing easier on the go. Carry plenty of disinfectant wipes for quick cleaning when needed. Flying with a baby can be daunting, especially handling diaper changes mid-flight. Bringing a well-stocked diaper bag with extra clothes, disposable changing pads, and trusted wipes can ease the process. Many parents find it helpful to request bulkhead seats for extra changing space and to board early when possible. Preparing for 'poonami' situations by having an emergency change kit and plastic bags for soiled clothes helps reduce stress. Most importantly, ensure your baby’s health by consulting your pediatrician before traveling and packing any necessary medications or comfort items. Mental readiness comes from setting realistic expectations and remembering that flexibility is key. Sharing your journey and learning from other parents’ travel experiences can provide valuable insights and reassurance for your adventure with your little one.
