I got my first mammogram at 26 years old. I waited longer than I probably should have, mostly because I was scared. The thought of it made me anxious not just the process itself, but the possibility of hearing bad news. I kept telling myself I was too young or that I’d do it later, but deep down I knew it was something I needed to take seriously, especially because breast cancer runs in my family.

When I finally scheduled the appointment, I was surprised by how smooth and quick the whole experience was. The technician was kind and walked me through every step, which made me feel so much more at ease. It was a little uncomfortable, but it wasn’t painful like I imagined it would be. The whole thing took less than 30 minutes. I left feeling proud of myself, and honestly, relieved. It felt empowering to take control of my health instead of letting fear hold me back.

Getting my first mammogram at 26 was a big step, but I’m glad I did it. It turned out to be a lot less intimidating than I expected, and now I feel more confident in keeping up with my health.

I used to let fear stop me, but now I understand that knowledge is power. Knowing my family history made it even more important to stay ahead of the risks, and I’m grateful I pushed through that fear.
