I could never trust her

For six long years, I carried around an unspoken resentment toward a friend I should have let go of much sooner. We stayed friends mostly because our moms were close, and breaking that bond felt more complicated than it really was. I wouldn’t say our friendship was completely horrible we did have some fun together and a few moments that felt genuine at the time. But underneath it all, there was always this nagging feeling that I couldn’t trust her completely.

She was two faced and lied more than I could count. Sometimes I’d hear things she said behind my back that made my stomach turn. Worst of all, she stole from me not just once, but repeatedly. It made me question why I kept letting her in, pretending things were fine when deep down I knew they weren’t. I’d smile and laugh with her, but inside I was always waiting for the next betrayal. It felt heavy carrying that fake closeness around for so long.

Cutting her off felt like lifting a hundred pounds off my shoulders. Since then, my life has felt lighter, my trust in people stronger, and my standards for friendship clearer than ever.

Now, looking back, I don’t hold hate in my heart for her I just feel grateful I chose myself. That chapter taught me to listen to my gut and to never force a friendship that only thrives on obligation. My life is better because I walked away, and I know now I’ll never settle for anything less than real, honest connections again.
