Reading Log

Okay so I know this is a lot. I feel the need to justify that most of these were audiobooks that I listened to while working. Also my internet went out for a hot minute, darn country living and those squirrels.

This week was all over, a little Ya, a little Romance a little showgirlness.

Impulse by Ellen Hopkins is always going to be a good read. I was rereading it to check my friend's niche tws to make sure she can read it. This book was my introduction to depression. I had felt it for years by the time I read it for the first time, but none of the counselors I had gone to had given it a name. It made me realize I was not alone.

Gather the Daughters by Jennie Melamed was a good read. I have been on a cult kick recently so if you have any recs I will happily take them.

Till Summer Do Us Part by Megan Quinn was a quirky little romance where two people fake a marriage at a marriage saving summer retreat. I just found the characters frustrating. This feels like the type of book I should recommend to my mom.

City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert was amazing. I loved the concept and the execution. It's giving Evelyn Hugo but New York. I really recommend it.

The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes was amazing. It was giving Criminal Minds but they are all teens scouted by the FBI for their talents. It's pretty fast paced and now I'm on the wait list for the next one.

Personal Update: We still don't know if we are moving to the other house. 🫠 A lot has happened on that front and on the just getting the bigger room. My boyfriend's sister has been dropped off at college but she didn't clean her room before she dipped so now she is having to come home on the weekends until it's done. My boyfriend's brother has been sleeping on the couch instead of the other house and has been talked to about the switch.

Romeo is officially my rabbit!!!! More pictures of him will be posted, I haven't taken any good ones this week.

What do y'all want to see this week? Any good reads from you?

... Read moreThis week’s reading selections showcase a rich blend of genres and themes that resonate deeply with diverse audiences. Ellen Hopkins’ Impulse remains a seminal YA audiobook tackling the complex issue of depression, helping listeners understand mental health through a raw and personal narrative. The storyline’s authenticity and emotional depth are invaluable for readers exploring similar struggles or seeking empathetic tales. Jennie Melamed’s Gather the Daughters delves into the unsettling world of cult dynamics, with shifting perspectives that amplify the tension and emotional impact. For those captivated by cult-themed literature, other compelling reads include The Girls by Emma Cline and Beware the Night by James R. Tynion IV, which similarly explore psychological control and coming-of-age challenges in isolated environments. Till Summer Do Us Part introduces a light-hearted, quirky romance revolving around a fake marriage plot at a retreat designed to save marriages. While the characters may come across as frustrating at times, the book offers a charming take on relationship dynamics, appealing to readers of contemporary romance. Elizabeth Gilbert’s City of Girls contrasts this with historical fiction glamorously portraying 1940s New York and the evolution of womanhood, akin to the popular tone of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ The Naturals offers a thrilling youth crime procedural reminiscent of Criminal Minds, but with teen protagonists recruited by the FBI for their exceptional talents. The fast pacing and intriguing premise make it perfect for fans of suspense and mystery series that blend personal growth with crime-solving. Audiobooks featured here are excellent for multitasking listeners, effortlessly integrating storytelling into busy daily routines. Embracing audiobooks for diverse genres broadens literary experiences and provides access to narratives otherwise missed. For readers interested in exploring further, consider engaging with book communities like #lemon8bookclub and #readingdiaries which offer valuable recommendations and discussions. Sharing your own reads or requesting suggestions can enrich your literary journey. Personal anecdotes, like the author’s update on moving and the new pet rabbit Romeo, provide relatable context, blending everyday life with the joy of reading. Overall, this week’s reading log highlights the importance of narrative diversity, emotional resonance, and community engagement in fostering a richer, more meaningful reading experience.
