how our relationship shifted after saying ‘I do’💍

I’ve only been married for two years, but marriage has already shifted so much, both in our relationship and in how we live our lives with intention and purpose.

One of the biggest changes is how we have become more committed than ever to pursuing God together. Faith is no longer something we do individually, it’s the foundation of our marriage. From how we communicate, to how we pray over each other, to the way we make daily decisions, God has become the center and it’s improved our relationship so much!

We were never the couple who obsessed over timelines or talked much about starting a family.

But now, we’re in a season of praying and planning for that next chapter not just for us, but for the future we want to build and the legacy we hope to leave behind.

Our mindset around money has shifted, too.

We’ve gone from impulse spending to making intentional, long term decisions about saving, budgeting, and investing in our future.

And overall, our marriage has moved away from that old “work hard, play hard” lifestyle.

Now, we’re learning to steward our time, energy, and resources toward the things that truly matter: faith, family, and long-term stability.

Marriage didn’t make life perfect but it’s made us more grounded, more purposeful, and more united in what we want to continue building!

Married ladies!!! How did your relationship shift after saying “I do”?

... Read moreStepping into marriage is a beautiful journey, and while love is the foundation, actively planning your future together is what builds a strong, lasting home. My partner and I quickly learned that it’s not enough to just talk about dreams; you need to sit down, sometimes literally at the kitchen table, and map them out. This intentional planning has been a game-changer for our healthy marriage and continuous growth. Here’s how we approach planning our future, and what we've found incredibly helpful: 1. Schedule Regular "Future Planning Dates": Just like you schedule dinner dates, set aside dedicated time for future planning. For us, this might be once a month or quarterly. We make it a comfortable, no-pressure environment – maybe with coffee, snacks, or a nice dinner. The goal isn't to solve everything in one sitting, but to consistently check in and keep our shared vision alive. This helps ensure we're always growing together, not just individually. 2. Tackle Finances Head-On: Money discussions used to be something we avoided, but marriage made us realize how crucial they are. We now regularly sit down to review our budget, track expenses, and discuss our financial goals. This includes everything from building an emergency fund to saving for a down payment on a home, or even planning for retirement. Moving from impulsive spending to intentional saving has given us so much peace of mind and cemented our commitment to long-term stability. 3. Dream About Your Family (and Beyond!): For us, the shift from not obsessing over timelines to actively praying and planning for a family was huge. We talk openly about when we’d like to have children, what kind of parents we envision ourselves being, and even how we want to raise them spiritually. But it's not just about kids; we also discuss our ideal lifestyle, travel dreams, and how we want our home to feel. These conversations help us align our individual desires into a shared vision. 4. Support Each Other's Individual Goals: While planning for a future *together*, it's equally important to support each other's personal aspirations. We carve out time to discuss career ambitions, personal development goals, and even hobbies we want to pursue. How can we uplift each other? What resources or encouragement can we provide? Our relationship has blossomed as we've learned to champion each other's individual growth within our shared life. 5. Communicate, Communicate, Communicate: During these planning sessions, active listening is key. We might not always agree immediately, and that's okay! The goal isn't necessarily to reach a perfect consensus every time, but to understand each other's perspectives and find common ground. It's about building a foundation of transparency and trust, which strengthens our bond far beyond the planning itself. Remember, a marriage is a living thing, always evolving, and our plans should reflect that flexibility too.
