Lesson learned
idk how it happened but it did and never again -#blackindieauthor
Losing hours of hard work due to synchronization problems is a nightmare many writers and creators fear. From my personal experience, when OneDrive failed to sync properly, the auto recovery feature only saved a version from the day before, causing me to lose three hours' worth of progress. The feeling was overwhelming—a mix of shock and frustration—and I even found myself in tears, realizing how much effort was suddenly gone. This incident made me reevaluate my trust in document management tools. While Microsoft Word’s auto recovery feature is helpful, it is not infallible, especially when paired with unreliable cloud sync services like OneDrive. After this experience, I decided to switch to Google Docs, which offers continuous saving and less dependency on manual syncing. The real-time collaboration and frequent autosaves have given me peace of mind, enabling me to focus on my creative process without worry. This experience taught me several key lessons: always have a reliable backup plan, test your tools before committing to lengthy work sessions, and don’t hesitate to move to platforms that better suit your workflow. For fellow authors, particularly those self-publishing or working on complex genre fiction like Xianxia Fantasy or Paranormal Romance, these lessons can safeguard your precious manuscripts and ideas. Ultimately, technology can support creativity but not replace the need for personal vigilance in managing digital work. By sharing this story, I hope others avoid similar soul-crushing moments and learn the importance of proper document synchronization and recovery methods in their writing journeys.
