Merino wool base layers help wick moisture away, keeping me dry and warm throughout the day. Also, having a versatile mid layer like the Arcteryx Atom lets me adjust insulation depending on the weather changes. For extremities, layering thin gloves under Gore-Tex mittens allows me to stay nimble while still protecting against frostbite, which is crucial when taking photos or using my phone. I’ve learned it’s vital to cover exposed skin with balaclavas and additional hats, especially when the wind picks up. This combo prevents heat loss from the head and face, where a lot of warmth can escape. It’s all about balancing breathability and insulation, so experimenting with different pieces helps me stay comfortable during long days on the mountain. Investing in high-quality gear might be pricey, but it’s worth it for those cold adventures when staying warm and dry is a must.
