Foster Care is Hard

My heart will never be the same. Being a foster parent is the hardest thing ever. You learn to grieve children that are STILL here on this earth, walking around, but not with you anymore. You are taught so many life lessons. Your heart grows for each new placement, and shatters when they leave. Goodbyes don't get any easier, you just learn how to cope with them instead. I have 5 placements that are out walking around with their bio families/or relatives, and I'm so happy for them, but my heart is also just not the same not seeing them every day and loving on them like they are my own. Foster parenting is the MOST rewarding thing ever, but it comes with so much heartbreak as well. I don't know how I continue to love on babies that aren't mine and raise them as they are mine, and putting my heart through the heartbreak every single time they leave. I am so blessed to have been apart of these 5 kiddos' lives at some point, and will continue to love the sweet girl I have now, and any other kids that might need me in the future, but maaaan is it HARD. 🫶

... Read moreFoster care involves not just providing a home, but also navigating the complex emotions that come with being a temporary guardian. The journey can be rewarding but is often intertwined with grief as foster parents say goodbye to children who touch their hearts deeply. It is crucial to understand the dynamics of attachment; foster parents are encouraged to seek support from fellow caregivers or support groups. Participating in community discussions can alleviate feelings of isolation and provide resources to connect with other foster families. Awareness of self-care practices is vital; managing stress through mindfulness or recreational activities helps foster parents cope with emotional challenges. Each placement represents an opportunity for growth, both for the child and the caregiver, making it essential to focus on the lasting impacts foster parents can have on vulnerable children's lives. By sharing stories and insights, those in the foster community can inspire potential foster parents to embrace the journey ahead, compassionately reminding them that their love and nurturing can make a significant difference, despite the inevitable heartache.

National Foster Care Month | Day 6 - The broken system
Some of the deepest wounds weren’t caused before foster care… they happen inside the system too. You can spend years inside the system and still be shocked by what children are expected to survive. I used to believe the system failed sometimes — now I think some failures are built into it. The long

Foster care is heartbreaking but at the same time it fills my heart over and over
One of the hardest parts of foster care is the unknowns and uncertainty. One day you may feel confident in the outcome and the next it changes. As heartbreaking as it all is, seeing the small wins makes it worth it. A child that heals, a mother that overcomes something, a family restores, a new f

The reality is that a lot of kids in foster care will end up needing an adoptive family. Yes, we want reunification to happen if it’s safe but ultimately i love to see permanency happen. The back and forth is so hard on the children. #fostermom #fostercare #atriskyouth

How I ended up in Foster care 💔
