At the end of life, many may wonder how we will feel or what the last picture we see will look like in a physical perspective. When it comes time for the body to say goodbye, everything will slowly shut down system by system...The heart stops beating, the lungs stop working, and the systems begin to quiet down calmly.
But you know that...There is an organ that will not be disabled, which is our brain.
Although other parts of the body have stopped, the human brain continues to function for about four or five minutes before shutting down completely and forever. In this very short period of time, the most amazing phenomenon occurs.

During the last minute, the brain processes and "projects," all the memories we've been through, especially the happiest moments of our lives, are gathered back again, as if we were going back into the most beautiful dreams before the last lights went out.

This reflects that there is absolutely nothing in human life. The only thing we can take with us at the last minute is not wealth, but "good memories" that our brains will show us for the last time.

คำว่า “ก่อนสิ้นลมหายใจ” สำหรับฉันมันไม่ใช่แค่ประโยคที่ฟังดูเศร้า แต่เป็นช่วงเวลาที่ทำให้เราหันกลับมามองชีวิตจริงๆ ว่าอยากให้ตอนท้ายที่สุด เราอยาก “เห็นอะไร” ในความทรงจำของตัวเอง จากที่เคยอ่านและฟังหลายแหล่ง (ทั้งแนววิทยาศาสตร์และเรื่องเล่าประสบการณ์ของคนที่เคยเฉียดตาย) สิ่งที่มักถูกพูดถึงคือ หลังหัวใจหยุดเต้น ร่างกายเริ่มปิดระบบไปทีละอย่าง แต่สมองอาจยังทำงานต่อได้ช่วงสั้นๆ ประมาณไม่กี่นาที ช่วงนี้เองที่หลายคนเล่าว่าเหมือนมี “ภาพฉายย้อนชีวิต” หรือความทรงจำบางช่วงเด่นชัดขึ้นมากๆ บางคนเห็นหน้าคนรัก บางคนเห็นภาพเหตุการณ์สำคัญ บางคนรู้สึกสงบแบบอธิบายไม่ถูก เหมือนกำลังฝันครั้งสุดท้าย ที่ฉันชอบโยงกับภาพในหัวมากๆ คือแนวคิด “THE FINAL DREAM: CHERISHED MEMORIES” (ความฝันสุดท้ายคือความทรงจำอันมีค่า) เพราะมันทำให้ฉันคิดว่า ต่อให้เราอธิบายเชิงกลไกสมองได้หรือไม่ได้ สุดท้ายสิ่งที่คนจำนวนมาก “อยากเจอ” ในวินาทีท้ายๆ ก็มักเป็นเรื่องเรียบง่าย: ครอบครัว รอยยิ้ม การกอด ทะเล ทริปสั้นๆ หรือวันที่เรารู้สึกว่าตัวเองมีค่า ถ้าใครกำลังค้นหาเรื่อง “ก่อนสิ้นลมหายใจ” เพื่อหาคำตอบว่ามันน่ากลัวไหม ส่วนตัวฉันคิดว่ามันน่ากลัวน้อยลงเมื่อเราเตรียมใจ และเตรียม “ความทรงจำ” ให้ตัวเองไว้ก่อน โดยไม่ต้องรอให้ชีวิตมีเรื่องใหญ่ เช่น - ทำลิสต์ “ความทรงจำที่อยากมี” 5 อย่าง เช่น กินข้าวกับพ่อแม่สัปดาห์ละครั้ง พาแฟน/เพื่อนไปทะเล ถ่ายรูปครอบครัวแบบจริงจังสักครั้ง - เก็บความสุขเล็กๆ ให้กลายเป็นหลักฐาน: รูปถ่ายสั้นๆ คลิปเสียงหัวเราะ ข้อความขอบคุณตัวเองก่อนนอน 1 บรรทัด - เคลียร์ใจเรื่องค้างคา: ขอโทษ ขอบคุณ บอกรัก หรือให้อภัย เรื่องพวกนี้พอถึงวันที่ไม่มีเวลา มันจะหนักกว่าเรื่องเงินหรือของใช้เยอะมาก - ทำสิ่งดีแบบไม่ต้องยิ่งใหญ่: ช่วยเหลือเล็กๆ น้อยๆ พูดดีๆ กับคนรอบตัว เพราะความทรงจำที่อบอุ่นมักมาจาก “ช่วงธรรมดา” นี่แหละ สุดท้าย ต่อให้เราไม่รู้แน่ชัดว่าก่อนสิ้นลมหายใจสมองจะฉายภาพแบบไหน แต่เราพอเลือกได้ว่า “วันนี้” จะใส่อะไรลงไปในคลังความทรงจำของตัวเองบ้าง และถ้าวันหนึ่งต้องมีความฝันครั้งสุดท้ายจริงๆ ฉันก็อยากให้มันเป็นความฝันที่มีคนที่รัก มีรอยยิ้ม และมีความรู้สึกว่าเราใช้ชีวิตคุ้มแล้ว
