After releasing the 25H2 version of Windows 11, Microsoft received a series of updates. It focused on the Microsoft 365 desktop suite that many people are familiar with. What's interesting is that the company is preparing to rebrand the icons of all Office apps - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and many others - to match the era and experience with Copilot as its main helper.

The new design will focus on freshness, more modern look, and 3D dimensions. Unlike previous times, it changed from a smooth Metro UI style to a colorful Fluent in 2018, which has been with users for more than 8 years. Now it's time for Microsoft to re-adjust its look to reflect the changes in Microsoft 365, where Copilot became pivotal in connecting apps.

Microsoft says that the new icon is designed to be unified, easy to use and show continuity between all platforms, whether enabled on desktop, mobile or web, will see the same bright and unified design. The update will be gradually released to users and corporate customers in a few weeks.

Of course, the new design will let Microsoft 365 users experience it first. Anyone who still uses the purchased version of Office (one-time, non-monthly subscription) should not update the new icon. You have to wait until Microsoft releases the next version, which is expected to be Office 2026 or Office 2027.
