Many people using Windows may be familiar with the nickname "Patch Tuesday" of Microsoft's monthly system update to be released on the second Tuesday of every month. This has traditionally been started since October of 2003 and is still used to the present day, but the reason Microsoft chose "Tuesday" instead of another day is actually not as complicated as it seems.

This is mainly due to the pattern of work in organizations, especially IT, that require a lot of system care. Microsoft bypasses releasing updates on Mondays because Mondays are often the time when IT teams have to deal with stale issues from the previous week or weekend. If big updates are added that day, they may create too much burden and risk to the system.

Tuesday thus becomes the most appropriate option. When Microsoft releases Patch Tuesday during the morning U.S. time, IT will still have the rest of the week's running time for testing, installing, monitoring impacts, and fixing potential issues before the weekend.

Microsoft, meanwhile, keeps track of bug reports from both casual users and corporate customers to develop more patches, or to issue urgent updates as special cases if necessary.

Releasing updates in monthly cycles also allows each patch to combine multiple revisions into one set, both security and system stability, keeping IT parties from having a headache with numerous sub-updates all the time and being able to plan administrations more easily.

However, even with thorough planning, testing, and follow-up systems, bugs still occasionally survive, which is considered difficult to avoid for operating systems being used on hundreds of millions of devices worldwide.
