I know why I watched YouTube and the retardant. 🚨
Anyone who has been watching YouTube on the computer through the browser and feels that it is slow, strange hanks may not have thought about it themselves. Because there are reports from many users around the world that YouTube may have found a bug in the web page section, causing the video tab to consume unusually high machine resources. Some cases find that a single tab uses more than 7GB of RAM.
.
The symptoms are that during video viewing, the CPU may load 100%. The machine starts to react slowly, the video twitches, or the YouTube tab freezes away. At first, many suspected it might be related to browser updates, or as a result of an anti-extension system blocking ads, but later reports from multiple browsers, both Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Brave, made the point seem to be more relevant to the YouTube web page itself than to any one browser.
.
According to an analysis by Mozilla developers on the Bugzilla system, the suspected point is not directly on the video itself, but on the UI section under the video player, which is a region of buttons such as Like, Dislike, Share, Save, and other menu buttons.
.
The problem is likely caused by YouTube's system trying to determine if the horizontal space under the clip is sufficient to display all buttons. If there is not enough space, it hides some buttons. But when the buttons are hidden, the free space increases, causing the system to reassess whether the buttons can be displayed again.
.
As a result, the buttons were quickly hidden and displayed back and forth. Thousands of repeated loops occurred in a short time. The browser therefore had to recalculate the layout of the web page at all times. Also known as layout thrashing until the CPU and RAM were unusually heavily used.
.
The good news is that Bugzilla has updated its status, that YouTube has taken measures to mitigate or remedy the impact of this problem, and that the bug has been closed to RESOLVED FIXED. However, there has been no official statement from Google or YouTube on the details of the fix.
.
For a solution if you are still experiencing symptoms, try closing the YouTube tab and reopening it, restarting the browser, updating the browser to the latest version, or temporarily closing extensions, especially those related to YouTube and ad blocker.
