How I Shelve New Books 📚🛍️

I have such a process for new books I buy lol 🩷📚

When I bring them home I stamp, catalog, and organize them on my shelf! This helps me keep track of everything and keeps my shelf super organized. I arrange my books on my shelves by genre, then author, then series/title. I also love my personalized stamp with mine and my husband’s name on it 😋

Do you have a process? Are you super organized or more go with the flow? How are your books arranged?

... Read moreBringing home a new book, especially a beautiful hardcover, is one of my favorite feelings! There's something so satisfying about the weight, the crisp pages, and the potential for a new adventure within its covers. But with that joy comes the perennial question: how do I keep my ever-growing collection organized and my bookshelves looking Pinterest-perfect? I've developed a system that works wonders for me, turning my book-shelving process into a ritual I genuinely enjoy. First, let's talk about the personal touch. While some people might skip this, for me, a personalized book stamp is non-negotiable. It's more than just marking ownership; it's about stamping each book with a piece of my own library's identity. Seeing my 'THIS BOOK BELONGS TO M CARMEN & JACOB' stamp on the title page always brings a smile to my face. It instantly elevates a simple book to a cherished part of our home collection. You can find beautiful custom stamps on sites like Etsy, and they make a fantastic gift for any book lover. Next up is the unsung hero of any serious book collector: the catalog. When I bring home new treasures, like those from my recent trip to Fawn and Fox Books, the first thing I do after admiring them is add them to my digital library. My 'CARMEN'S LIBRARY' spreadsheet, as seen on my computer screen, is my secret weapon! It helps me keep track of titles, authors, series, and even when I acquired them. This isn't just for organization; it's incredibly practical. Ever bought a duplicate by mistake? A catalog prevents that! It also helps me quickly find a specific book, remember which books I've lent out, and plan future purchases to complete a series, like adding the next installment to my Emily McIntire collection. Now for the fun part: shelving those beautiful hardcover books! This is where the magic happens and where your bookshelf truly comes to life. Hardcovers are substantial, so when placing them, always consider weight distribution to prevent shelves from bowing. I usually arrange my books upright, but for oversized art books or coffee table reads, laying them flat can create a stylish visual break and protect their spines. Beyond just genre, author, and series (which are excellent starting points), I love to play with visual aesthetics. Sometimes I group books by color for a striking display, though this can make finding a specific title a bit trickier! Another tip is to vary the height of your book stacks or use decorative bookends to break up long rows. My bookshelves aren't just storage; they're an extension of my personality. I love incorporating small decorative items, like an enamel pin, small plants, or even a personalized sign with my name, to add warmth and character amidst the spines. This makes the entire display feel cohesive and inviting. Remember, your bookshelf is a canvas – don't be afraid to experiment until it feels just right for you!
