... Read moreOkay, so we all know ChatGPT can be a lifesaver when you're swamped with schoolwork, right? I've definitely used it myself! But after seeing some friends get into sticky situations, I realized how crucial it is to use AI wisely. It’s not just about getting the work done; it’s about protecting your academic standing and actually learning. One of the biggest lessons I've learned, and something I saw highlighted in an internal 'ChatGPT What NOT to do (student edition)' guide, is 'Don't Rely Solely On AI'. Seriously, this hit home. It's so tempting to just copy and paste, especially when you're tired, but that's a fast track to not understanding the material at all. AI is great for brainstorming ideas or getting a quick summary, but if you let it do all the heavy lifting, you're missing out on developing your own critical thinking skills. I always try to use it as a starting point, then research further myself, add my own unique insights, and definitely check any suggestions it gives. You'd be surprised how often AI can get things subtly wrong or just give really generic answers that don't impress professors. My tip? Think of AI as a very smart, but sometimes flawed, assistant, not a replacement for your brain! Even more critical is the point about 'Don't Ignore Academic Integrity'. This is where things can go really wrong. Submitting AI-generated work as your own is a huge no-no and can lead to serious consequences, like failing a class or even suspension. Every school has its own academic integrity policy, and it's our responsibility as students to know it inside and out. I always double-check my university's guidelines on AI use, because policies are constantly evolving. If you're using AI for research or to help structure an essay, it's generally a good idea to cite it, or at least acknowledge its use, if your professor allows it. Think of it like this: AI can help you understand a concept better, or help you articulate your own thoughts, but the final output needs to reflect your original work and understanding. I use it to rephrase sentences sometimes, but I always make sure the core ideas and arguments are mine. It's about using AI as a tool to enhance your learning process, not to bypass it. So, how do I personally navigate this? First, I make sure to always review and edit anything AI produces. It's not perfect, and often needs my personal touch to sound authentic and accurate. Second, I cross-reference information. If ChatGPT gives me a fact, I'm heading to Google Scholar or my textbooks to verify it. Third, and perhaps most importantly, I focus on developing my own critical thinking. AI can give answers, but it can't teach you how to think deeply, analyze complex problems, or form nuanced arguments. Those are skills you need for life, not just for passing a class. Ultimately, using ChatGPT for school is a balancing act. It can be an incredible resource, but only if you use it ethically, responsibly, and always with academic integrity at the forefront of your mind. Stay smart, students!

When writing a paper, you can upload the paper and rubric/prompt to ChatGPT and say using the rubric, grade the paper with recommendations on how to improve each point. Got a 100% on my most recent paper doing this!
