Fried Cinnamon Apple Rings 🍎

Fried Cinnamon Apple Rings 🍎

Ingredients:

For the Apple Rings:

1. 4 large apples (like Gala)

2. 1 cup flour

3. ¼ teaspoon baking powder

4. 2 tablespoons sugar

5. ¼ teaspoon salt

6. ⅛ teaspoon cinnamon

7. 1 large egg, beaten

8. 1 cup buttermilk

9. Vegetable oil for frying

For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:

10. ⅓ cup sugar

11. 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions:

1. In a big bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and ⅛ teaspoon of cinnamon. Set it aside.

2. In a small bowl, whisk the egg and buttermilk together.

3. In another small dish, mix the ⅓ cup of sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon to make your cinnamon-sugar topping. Set that aside too.

4. Slice the apples into ¼-inch thick rings. Use different-sized biscuit cutters to create rings, throwing away the middle parts with the core.

5. Heat up the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.

6. As the oil is warming up, combine the dry mix from step 1 with the wet mix from step 2. This is your batter.

7. Dip each apple ring into the batter, shaking off the excess by tapping it against the bowl's side.

8. Fry the rings in small batches, turning them until they're golden brown on both sides.

9. Once crispy, transfer the apple rings to a plate lined with paper towels for a moment to soak up excess oil.

10. Quickly roll each warm apple ring in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat evenly.

11. Place the coated rings on a wire rack and serve them warm.

Notes:

Feel free to use as many or as few apples as you like; they go a long way in this recipe! Enjoy!

... Read moreOkay, so you've seen the recipe for these amazing fried cinnamon apple rings, and let me tell you, they are an absolute game-changer! I've made them countless times, and there's just something magical about that warm, crispy exterior giving way to a tender, sweet apple center, all coated in fragrant cinnamon sugar. If you're looking to take your apple ring game to the next level or just want to make sure yours turn out absolutely perfect every single time, I've got a few extra tips and tricks I've picked up along the way. First things first: choosing your apples. The recipe suggests Gala, which is a fantastic choice because it holds its shape well and has a lovely sweetness. However, don't be afraid to experiment! For a tarter contrast that really shines through the sweetness, try using Granny Smith apples. They give a wonderful crispness and a delightful tang. Honeycrisp or Fuji are also excellent options if you prefer something sweeter with a good bite. The key is to pick firm apples that won't turn to mush when fried. Using fresh, crisp "green apples" (as described in some of my pics!) really makes a difference. Next, let's talk about getting that perfect golden-brown and crispy texture. This is where the magic truly happens! Your oil temperature is crucial – aim for a consistent 350°F (175°C). If the oil isn't hot enough, your apple rings will absorb too much oil and become greasy. If it's too hot, they'll burn on the outside before the apple cooks through. I always use a thermometer to keep an eye on it. Don't overcrowd your pan when frying; work in small batches. This helps maintain the oil temperature and ensures each ring gets evenly cooked and beautifully "golden-brown." Once they come out, that quick roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture is key for maximum coating and flavor. Sometimes, I even give them a light dusting of "powdered sugar" right before serving for an extra elegant touch! While the classic "cinnamon sugar" topping is delicious, feel free to get creative! A tiny pinch of nutmeg or allspice added to your cinnamon-sugar mix can elevate the flavor profile, especially for a cozy fall vibe. You could also drizzle them with a bit of warm caramel sauce or a simple vanilla glaze for an extra indulgent treat. For a stunning presentation, sometimes I'll place a "star anise pod" on the serving plate – it adds such a lovely aromatic touch and makes them look super fancy, especially if you're serving them to guests. Finally, how to serve these beauties! Of course, they're incredible on their own, warm and fresh from the pan. But imagine them alongside a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, or even a side of plain Greek yogurt for a slightly healthier twist. They make a fantastic dessert for a casual get-together or a special weekend brunch. Honestly, I find myself making these whenever I have extra apples or just want a quick, comforting treat. They always disappear fast! Trust me, once you master these, they'll become a staple in your recipe rotation.
