In the mornings I write in my journal and more times than not, I have a verse or two on my mind or maybe lyrics from a praise and worship song and I end up doodling it out.
This morning it was the Lord’s Prayer.
Have you ever thought about the part that says, “Forgive us our trespasses and we forgive those who trespass against us”? We are literally asking the Lord to forgive us, in the same way that we forgive others.
Think about that for a minute.
Matthew 6:15 says that if we do not forgive, we will not be forgiven.

... Read moreForgiveness is a cornerstone of many spiritual teachings, particularly in Christianity. The Lord’s Prayer highlights this with the reminder that we must forgive others if we seek forgiveness ourselves. When we harbor resentment, we not only burden ourselves with negative emotions like bitterness and anger but also distance ourselves from peace and joy.
To fully embrace the concept of forgiveness, consider what it means to let go of past hurts. It's important to recognize that forgiveness does not diminish the wrong done to us but rather releases us from the hold that anger has over our hearts. Matthew 6:14-15 reminds us that forgiveness is critical; our willingness to forgive influences our relationship with God.
Many find journaling a helpful tool in this process, allowing them to reflect on their feelings and take actionable steps towards forgiveness. Writing about grievances might provide clarity, helping to identify root feelings and the true cost of holding onto anger.
Additionally, engaging in prayer can be a powerful practice to aid the process. When you pray for those who've wronged you, it shifts your perspective and fosters empathy, making it easier to extend forgiveness. Surrounding oneself with supportive faith communities provides encouragement and accountability as we take these steps towards healing.
Ultimately, the journey of forgiveness leads to greater freedom and peace, offering a deeper connection not only with ourselves but also with others and God. Choose to lay down your burdens and experience the liberation that comes with forgiveness.
