If you're feeling frustrated about the current political landscape in Ontario, you're not alone. One effective way to make your voice heard is by actively communicating with your elected representatives and officials. I recently took some time to call Premier Doug Ford's office using the phone number 416-325-1941 and sent an email to premier@ontario.ca to express my concerns about issues like healthcare funding, OSAP cuts, and the controversial Bill 60 which involves water services privatization. It’s important to be clear and concise when you reach out. Share personal stories if possible to make your message resonate. I also reached out to the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario through 416-325-7780 and used the general inquiry portal at Lgontario.ca. The Lieutenant Governor holds the power to intervene in extreme circumstances, including calling for the Premier’s resignation, which is why this office can be a powerful ally. Many people underestimate the power of consistent public outcry. Calling and emailing regularly, and encouraging friends and family to do the same, creates pressure on officials to respond and consider public feedback. The issues we face—like loss of money due to the Airbus jet purchase, cuts to autism supports, changes in public education, and the Greenbelt scandal—need our attention. It might feel overwhelming, but every call counts. You can advocate from the comfort of your own home, or even on the go with your phone. Keep notes about the responses you receive and stay persistent. Sometimes it takes repeated effort to get results, but our collective action is the only way to influence decisions when politicians hold a majority government. Lastly, stay informed by visiting sites like ola.org to review legislative changes such as Bill 60, and use this knowledge to ask informed questions. The future of Ontario depends on active participation, so don’t hesitate to reach out and keep the pressure on. Together, we can push for better healthcare, protect public resources like water, and ensure fair support for students and vulnerable communities.
