Informative, taboo, gross, interesting… read it!!

Gory Details by Erika Engelhaupt

✨ 4/5 stars ✨

This was an interesting read looking at the gross, dark, and taboo side of science. I read this book for the March book in the Morbidly Curious Book Club. While some topics were gross, repulsive, and dark, others were very interesting and all topics included scientific explanations. Detailed research was included in this book. If nothing else, this book is a good reminder to remain curious and to ask questions, even if it’s about something considered taboo or gross.

... Read moreGory Details by Erika Engelhaupt sheds light on the uncomfortable topics often avoided in mainstream discussions. Covering everything from morbid curiosities to biological oddities, this book engages readers by intertwining scientific facts with narratives that provoke both disgust and intrigue. Engelhaupt, a seasoned writer for National Geographic, blends humor with scientific rigor, ensuring that each chapter not only informs but also entertains. The book emphasizes the importance of asking questions—even about subjects deemed taboo—encouraging a deeper understanding of the natural world's wonders and horrors. Additionally, participating in communities like the Morbidly Curious Book Club allows readers to bond over shared interests, reflect on the readings, and explore similar themes. For those with a taste for the unconventional, 'Gory Details' opens up a realm where the grotesque meets the enlightening, making it a must-read for those intrigued by the mysteries of life and death. Are you ready to embrace the gross and morbid? Explore how various organisms thrive in extreme conditions, uncover secrets of decay, and learn why some of nature's processes might turn your stomach but are fascinatingly educational. This book not only broadens your knowledge but also challenges societal norms surrounding discussions about life's darker realities.

The cover of 'The Future Is Asian' by Parag Khanna is shown against a mountain backdrop. Text describes the book as gushing with facts and anecdotes, yet analytically simplistic, leaving the reader impressed but also overwhelmed and exhausted.
Quotes from 'The Future Is Asian' are displayed over a mountain scene, discussing Asia's ascendance and the 'Asianization' of the world in the 21st century. The book is a 448-page hardcover covering nonfiction, politics, and economics.
